WG 1: Claims of Knowledge, Research Practice and Practical Application

The broader subject focused on by the DeWiss network's working group 1 is the interplay between
(a) the theoretical positioning and knowledge claims of Delphi procedures,
(b) their implementation in research practice, and
(c) practical applicability to various professional/social arenas.

This working group focuses on the historical roots and scientific theory underneath Delphi techniques and their epistemological potentials and paradigmatic limitations. Also falling under the aspect of pragmatic research are the usefulness, feasibility and practicability of Delphi techniques. Associated with this are, primarily, the debate over the design of Delphi studies, how to contact experts, and the relevance of disagreement and diverging judgments. Closely linked to this are questions about the importance of different kinds of knowledge cultures and about power and interpretive authority in the context of Delphi techniques.
